The following Obituary appeared in the "COLORED NOTES " OF THE MARION CHRONICLE December 23, 1915 and December 25, 1915
Edith Weaver Pettiford was the sister of Henry Weaver the founder of Weaver Settlement and the daughter of John and Loucie Holdeson Weaver.

Aunt Edith Pettiford who has been ill for the past two years died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Mary Patterson at five o'clock this morning. She is 91 years of age and has spent the greater part of her life in Grant county. She is survived by seven children Henry Pettiford of this city , Beverly Pettiford of Indianapolis, Mrs. Sarah Williams of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Mary Patterson of this city. One sister Mrs. Martishea Hill of this city. Aunt Edith was a member of the Allen Temple church and a charter member of the Mary chapter of No.10 O.E.S.. She is the widow of the late Beverly Pettiford and widely known thruout Grant county was of kind and cherfull disposition and was very entertaining for one of her years. Her memory was beyond average for her age. The funeral arrangments have not been completed at this time


Mrs. Edith Pettiford, who died December 23 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Mary Patterson was buried December 24 at 2p.m., at Allen Temple church of which she was a member. Mrs. Pettiford was 91 years of age and was the widow of Beverly D.Pettiford . She was the mother of eleven children , seven of whom survive. Five girls, Mrs. Parthenia Smith of this city, Mrs. Julia Evans of Weaver, Mrs. Delvinia Hill of Indianapolis, Sarah Williams of Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Mary Patterson of this city.Two sons James Henry Pettiford, of this city and Beverly Pettiford of Indianapolis; one sister Martisha Hill of this city; thirty-four grandchildren,fifty great-grandchildren, and ten great great grandchildren and a host of family and friends. The pallbearers were her grandchildren, J.W. Burden ,Verlie Pettiford, Homer Hill, Jasper Burden, Fred Smith , and Riley Evans. The funeral was preached by Rev. J.H. Butler and was largely attended.
