I am trying to piece together the Blanarik families in Trnava region, north of Little Carpathians and south of Holic. This includes Senica, Sobotište, Podbranč, Prietrž, Hradište pod Vrátnom, Osuské and Jablonica with associated towns. I have two questions. 1. Naming in the 18th century seems fluid with Blanar, Blanarik and other like names used for the same family. After 1800 surnames seem more fixed. Are Blanarik and Blanar the same surname? 2. There are both Evangelical and Catholic Blanariks. Some were married in the Lutheran church and had their children baptized in the Catholic parish. What was the role of religion? Was the child baptized Catholic of Lutheran parents considered Catholic?
