According to the 1851, 1861 and 1871 Censuses of Monmouthshire and Glamorgan, my 3 x great grandfather Jonathan Jones says he was born in Towyn generally around 1815.
On both of his marriage certificates (in 1840 and 1864), he gives his father's details as John Jones, Farmer.
Having looked through the Censuses for Towyn in the hope his father may still have been alive and farming, I came across a Farmer named John Jones at Esguan in 1841, 1851 and 1861. He was born circa 1785 at Towyn, and his wife is named as Catherine.
I have been struggling to find any suitable baptisms for John and Catherine's children that were with them in 1841 and 1851, which leads me to think they may have been Baptists.
This would certainly add up because when Jonathan married Ann Esau in 1840, they were married at the Pisgah Baptist Chapel in Talywaine, near Pontypool in Monmouthshire.
I have had the exact same problem trying to find Ann Esau's baptism in Cardigan, leading me to think that maybe her family were Baptists as well.
Is anyone researching this particular Jones family at Esguan who can help to verify if this is my Jonathan Jones' family please?
Any help, pointers or suggestions would be deeply appreciated.
Kind regards and sincerest thanks, Jon - Abertillery, Wales, UK
