Hi Steve,
It's great to hear back from you, as I was concerned that too much time had lapsed.
From what I've been able to tell, a number of families from the area within Moyarta, Kilrush connected in Sydney and either inter-married or formed what seems to be a close social network...a home away from home. This is where you're getting overlap between the Quealeys, Maguires /McGuires and another family the Roches.

Heading back to the Maguires in Doonaha East in County Clare, I haven't gone looking for these people but have noted what I've found.

From what I've found so far combined with the replies and info on the thread:
Hugh Maguire was born in 1829, Doonaha East.
He married Johanna Fennell, Ross, Co Clare in Carrigaholt, Co Clare Feb 7th, 1855.
Hugh and Johanna were living at House 2 Doonaha East for the 1901 Census. Hugh was 72, occupation farmer, and could read and write. Johanna was 67 and could only read. They could both speak Irish and English. Both Roman Catholic.
Death of Hugh Maguire
Age 73 Occupation: Farmer. Cause of death was old age. The informant was his brother, Patrick Maguire, Doonaha.
Death of Johanna Maguire
Johanna died on the 23rd November, 1910 at Baltard at the home of her daughter, Bridget O’Neill. Informant was her son-in-law Simon O’Neill. Occupation: Housekeeper. Cause of death was pneumonia 10 days and heart failure 2 days.

Known Children of Hugh Maguire & Johanna Fennell:
In no particular order
Name Year Born Year Married Spouse Died
John 4th Feb, 1856 Carrigaholt bapt 1887 QLD Bridget Troy 19/1/1923 Auburn,Sydney

Bridget 3rd Feb, 1891 Simon O’Neill

Arthur 13th March, 1870 17th May, 1889 Doonaha

Bedelia? witness for the marriage of Bridget Maguire and Simon O’Neill.

I have also found two siblings for Hugh Maguire. He had a brother Patrick in Doonaha who signed his death certificate and another brother, Arthur, who married a Bridget. Their daughter, Honora, came out to NSW around 1879 and married John Roche in 1882 at Sacred Heart Church, Darlinghurst. They had six kids including John Arthur Roche who became a priest. He married Thomas Francis Quailey & Johanna McGuire. The Quaileys and the McGuires at least attended some of the Roche kids' weddings.
I have a lot more information to share and it's also great your mum is still alive at such a fine age.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
