About UK Perth & Kinross Archive, Local & Family History

UK Perth & Kinross Archive, Local & Family History

The archive holds the records of Perth & Kinross Council and its predecessors (including royal burghs, police burghs, county councils, parochial and school boards, parish and district councils, turnpike trusts, highway commissioners, constabularies, freeholders, commissioners of supply and justices of the peace). Additionally, the archive has the deposited records of local individuals, estates, businesses, trades incorporations, clubs, societies, trade unions, political parties and institutions. The archive’s holdings date from the 12th to the 21st centuries and range from medieval parchments to modern files, from the formal records of local government to personal letters and diaries. There are photographs of local events and even local criminals, architectural drawings and estate plans. The Local & Family History Service contains local directories; published works relating to the parishes, towns and villages of Perth & Kinross; local newspapers for the last two centuries and a great deal of published and unpublished genealogical information. Access to the archive search room and the Local & Family History Service is free and most importantly has knowledgeable and friendly staff keen to help. Research and copying can be undertaken on payment of the current fees.
