Manchester Libraries, Information and Archives is part of Manchester City Council and hold a wide range of archives and printed material relating to the history of Manchester and family history from the 13th century to the modern day. We are also the Diocesan Record Office for Manchester which means they hold Church of England parish registers from 1500s-1900s for the Diocese of Manchester.
Manchester Records Collections on Ancestry sites include:
Parish Records: Before civil registration in England began in 1837, key events in a person’s life were typically recorded by the church rather than the state. Parish records are the best source of vital record information in England before the nineteenth century and remain an important source thereafter. This data collection contains images of Church of England baptism, marriage, and burial records in registers from Greater Manchester and South East Lancashire.
Images may be used only for the purposes of the family history research in accordance with Ancestry’s website terms of use. At the request of the Manchester Diocese it is highlighted that the use of images for retrospective or proxy baptism is not permitted.
