About this project This collection contains various militia records, mostly lists of males eligible to serve, from the West Yorkshire area from 1779-1827.

Project Instructions This collection contains militia records from Bingley, Howarth, Sandal Magna, Todmorden and Thurstonland in West Yorkshire. The majority of the collection are lists of males eligible to serve in the local militia, but also includes payments made to the militia and lists of officers.We will be keying name, rank, event date and age. Key every name on the record.

Militia Records



Choose the "Militia Records" form type when the image contains records to be keyed.

Additional Image Samples

Event Day

Key the day from the event date. When present, event date will appear in the top of the image and will need to be copied down.

Event Month

Key the month from the event date. When present, event date will appear in the top of the image and will need to be copied down.

Event Year

Key the year from the event date. When present, event date will appear in the top of the image and will need to be copied down.

Prefix

Key any titles before the given name, such as "Dr," "Mr," or "Mrs," as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you.

Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you. Initials should be keyed with a space between them and without entering the periods.

Surname

Key the surname as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you.

Suffix

Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you.

Rank

When present, key the Rank as seen.

Age

When present, key the age at the time of the event. We expect ages to fall between 10 and 80 years.

Keying Image Samples

Cover page, Section header, etc



Use the “Cover page, Section header, etc” type for images that don’t contain any data, but might be interesting to look at because they provide some type of context for the image set. For instance, historical notes, affidavits, and so forth.

Image with no data



Use the “Image with no data” type for images that do not contain any data or any useful context that might be interesting for someone to look at. For instance, an image containing only a blank background.

Target



Choose the "Target" form type when the image is of color or grayscale target.
