Key the surname as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you. The surname should be keyed from the surname of the parent, found in the "Name and Surname of the Father or (if the child be illigetimate) the Mother" column.

Suffix

Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you. The name will be found in the "Name, if any, of child."

Gender

Key the gender as "Male" or "Female" using the value in the "Sex" column to guide you. When the sex is listed as "Boy" then "Male" should be keyed. If the sex is listed as "Girl" then "Female" should be keyed.
