About this project

This project consists of newspaper clippings of soldiers receiving citations during World War I. Only the name and year of publication will be captured from these images. The project level is Easy as the necessary fields are easy to determine.

This form type is for all newspaper clippings.

Year of Publication

Capture the year of publication found near the top of the image.  If more than one year appears key the most recent year.

Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the primary person to whom the record pertains using the drop-down list provided for assistance. If more than one soldier name appears on the image, key as separate records. If the same soldier name appears more than once, key only one record for that soldier. However, capture the most legible and complete/full names as possible, wherever they may appear on the image.

Surname

The Surname is the last name of the primary person to whom the record applies. Capture the Surname using the dictionary provided for assistance. If the surname does not appear in the dictionary then key the surname as seen. If the same soldier name appears more than once, key only one record for that soldier. However, capture the most legible and complete/full names as possible, wherever they may appear on the image.

Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname of the primary person to whom the record applies using a dictionary if provided for assistance. If a suffix does not appear in a dictionary then key the suffix as seen.

This form type is for the images which display a soldier's name, the words "see under", and then another soldier's name.
