About this project
This collection consists of index cards with biographical and occupational information. There are various types of index cards; however, only fields from one of the types will be keyed. The fields are easily identifiable and the records legible. The keying difficulty level is set at easy.

These cards are identified by ALL of the following: a bold title, "California State Library"; a "Name in full" line; a "Born at" line which includes an "on" portion; a "Father" line; a "Mother (maiden name in full)" line; an "If married, to whom?" line; a "Place" line; a "Date" line; a "Where educated" line; sometimes a "Profession or occupation" line; a "Years spent in California" line; a "Residence in State" line; sometimes a "Pseudonyms" line; sometimes a "Place and date of death line"; and, a "Present address" line. Not all information from these cards will be keyed.
Prefix
Key any titles before the Given name, such as "Dr", "Rev", "Mr" or "Mrs". A prefix may be keyed or selected from the drop-down list.

Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the primary person. The primary name is usually found on the "Name in full" line at the top of the card. Key the name as seen, using the provided drop-down list to assist you. Sometimes the primary name may appear multiple times on the card. When this happens, key the most complete version of the name from wherever it may appear.

This form type is for the cards that have no preprinted lines, but have the primary name and some vital information, such as birth date.

Consecutive Index Card
This form type is for the back sides of the index cards. They display no vital information, but will include occupational, educational, political, etc. information. Even back sides that are blank should be classified as this form type.
Card Side
Key the word "Back" on images that contain the back side of the cards. Do not key front.
