Q: An image I have downloaded for the London School Admissions contains what appear to be professions listed in the parents name column e.g. Cheesemonger, bricklayer, engine driver, Coach painter etc. but no obvious fore- or surname. Should I record these as the parents name and if so as the surname or forename?
A: In this instance you should leave the surname field empty. When there are entries in the field that do not correspond with what should be entered generally the field should be left empty.
