Should we assume that a father's last name is the same as the child's? For example, how should I key the father's name for "Burke, Col. J., of 98th Foot, e.s. of Sir F., Bt., Marble hill..."
- A: I've been keying the bride or groom's surname as the father's surname (but I don't know if this is actually correct).--Blckdove2 18:36, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
Fenton, Geo. = Mingay, Mary Ann y.s. of James, K.C. of Thetford July, 1797
My question is: How can Mary Ann be the younger SON of James? Could this be younger sister??
The answer just popped into my head: the y.s. is the primary person, Geo Fenton. Duh.
- A: Googling shows that there was a James Mingay KC of Thetford and does not come up with a James Fenton KC, but I have not been able to ascertain whether Mary Ann was James's sister or daughter. --Katerimmer 22:45, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
Should I be putting in a "blank" when there is no given name?
- A: Yes. --Katerimmer 23:15, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
Q: A few records show "ii" or "i" before the marriage year (e.g. "Neligan, Miss = Hodson, Oliver ii 1794". Is this the month of the marriage (Feb)? Or the second marriage? Or something else?
- A: It isn't the month number because it is always i or ii. WAP support have said they don't know what it means and that we are not to key it. --Katerimmer 22:48, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
