Visconti Family History
Visconti Name Meaning
Italian: from visconte a title of rank (medieval Latin vicecomes ‘deputy of a count’). Unusually (since most noble families took their surnames from their estates) the surname was sometimes of literal application but without doubt it is also in part a nickname for someone who gave himself airs and graces and in part a metonymic occupational name for someone in the employ of a viscount. This surname is also found in southern France.
