Takes Name Meaning
Dutch (mainly North Holland): patronymic from the Frisian personal name Take from an ancient Germanic personal name composed with the element theud ‘people race’. American shortened and altered form of any Greek patronymic ending in -takis such as Anagnostakis (see Anagnos ). This ending is in North America sometimes also spelled -takes as in Christakes (see Christakis ). It consists of a proper name stem ending -t and the patronymic suffix -akis which is particularly typical for the surnames from Crete where it was adopted massively in the 19th century.
