Shackley Family History

Shackley Name Meaning

English (Lancashire and Cumberland): habitational name from Shakerley in Leigh (Lancashire) Shackerley in Leyland (Lancashire) or perhaps from Shackerley in Donnington (Shrophire) though no medieval evidence for the Shropshire placename has been found. The Lancashire placenames probably derive from Old English scēacere ‘robber’ + lēah ‘woodland clearing’.
