Mccabe Family History
Mccabe Name Meaning
Irish (especially Monaghan and Cavan): Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Cába ‘son of Cába’ a nickname or personal name of obscure origin. The surname belongs to a military galloglass family from the Scottish Hebrides apparently a branch of McLeod who were employed and settled in Cavan in the 14th century. It is likely that Mac Cába literally ‘son of cape’ originated as a nickname for a galloglass.
