Japanese: written 松下 ‘beneath the pine tree’. Two families one of Tōtōmi (now part of Shizuoka prefecture) the other of Mikawa (now part of Aichi prefecture) both descend from the Sasaki family. The name is also found in the Ryūkyū Islands.
