English: probably a habitational name from Livermere in
Suffolk. This is first found in the form Leuuremer
(c.1050), which suggests derivation from Old English
l?fer ‘rush’, ‘reed’ + mere ‘lake’. However, later
forms consistently show i in the first syllable, suggesting Old
English lifer ‘liver’, referring either to the shape of the
pond or to the coagulation of the water.
