Danish: from Old Norse kaldr ‘cold’ + bekkr ‘stream’ hence presumably a topographic name for someone who lived near a cold stream. Altered form of Norwegian Kulbeck: habitational name from a farm in the province of Buskerud named Kullebekken a compound of kull ‘coal’ and bekk ‘stream’ referring to the dark color of the water.
