Hajduk Name Meaning
Polish and Rusyn (from Slovakia Poland Serbia and Croatia); Slovak (also Hajdúk): status name for an armed retainer in the service of local landowners from the term hajduk borrowed from Hungarian (see Hajdu ) which was also used to denote a Hungarian foot soldier in the Polish army in the 16th century and an insurgent rebel (see 2 below). Compare Hejduk . Croatian: status name of Hungarian origin (see Hajdu compare 1 above) for an insurgent rebel and by extension also for a highwayman bandit. Czech: variant of Hejduk a cognate of 1 above. Compare Haiduk Hayduk and Hyduk and also Hydock .
