Slovak Rusyn (from Slovakia) and Czech (Gajdoš): occupational name for a bagpipe player from gajdoš a derivative of gajda ‘bagpipe’ (see Gajda ). Hungarian and Polish: from a derivative of Slavic gajda ‘bagpipe’ (see 1 above). In Hungarian this was usually applied as a nickname for a ribald person (from gajdolni ‘to carouse sing in a raucous or drunken way’). Compare Gaidos Gaydos and Gaydosh .
