English: possibly an altered form of Grummett which is from a pet form of the personal name Grim or of any of various ancient Germanic personal names formed with the element grim ‘mask’ (see Grim ). Possibly an altered form of German Grummeth a nickname for a farmer who was known for his second hay harvest from dialect Grummet ‘second grass (hay) cut’ or a topographic name from Krammet an old dialect word for juniper.
