English: nickname from Middle English busteyn bustian (Old French bustane) a kind of fine cotton cloth which apparently also occurs in Middle English in the form busting. Possibly also French (northern) and Walloon: variant of French Butin which may be a nickname for a pillager based on Old French butin ‘spoils’ or at least in Wallonia (Belgium) a variant of Boutin .
