Norwegian: habitational name from a farm so named most probably from bu ‘small house hut’ (compare Buan ). Italian: nickname for a powerfully built man from bue ‘bull’ a dialect form of bòve (from Latin bos genitive bovis). In some cases it may have been originally a metonymic occupational name for a herdsman. Compare Lo Bue .
