Irish (Connacht): adopted as an English equivalent
of Gaelic Ó Gaoithin ‘descendant of Gaoithín’ (see
Gahan), because Gaelic gaoth also means ‘wind’, and the
English surname Wynne was taken as being related to the English
vocabulary word wind.
